20 Questions with Ferrini 41

During one of my random Spotify sessions of discovering new music, I came across an emerging artist known as Ferrini 41, a DIY Singer, Rapper, Producer and Audio Engineer from Tempe, Arizona.

I knew I had to get in contact to find out more about his music and where it comes from so I reached out and got some answers (and some very unrelated but equally as interesting information at the same time).

Before we dive in with the quick-fire 20 questions, a bit of background on Ferrini 41.

Working only with his little brother r-Zona, he is completely self sufficient with his music. His sound, often categorized as Alternative Hip Hop, combines Pop, Alternative Rock, EDM, and Hip Hop into one unique style.
Currently, Ferrini 41 is independent and plans to keep it that way managing to rack up hundreds of thousands of streams in 2019 alone, without the help of any Record Labels or Management Companies.

So now lets dive in...

What is the best advice you've ever been given?

Don’t let the lows get you too low or the highs get you too high. Staying level headed has always been an issue for me and I really try to keep this in the back of my mind as I move through my career as an artist.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?

Go to the moon
Buy a helicopter
Meet J Cole

What is a must have item of clothing you own?

Black and white crewnecks. They pretty much go with anything and I like to wear a lot of crazy shoes and jeans so it makes life easy when I’m picking out what I’m gonna wear.

What is the best thing that's happened to you this year?

Seeing 3 of my songs break 40k streams on Spotify. I’ve been releasing music for a long time and have never seen any success. I went probably like 5 years before I got 1000 plays on a song. It was really a team effort though I couldn’t have done it with out my producer and little brother r-Zona.

Would you rather visit 1000 years into the past or 1000 years into the future? What's one thing you'd do there?

1000 years in the future for sure. Something people probably don’t know about me is I’m a big space geek. I don't watch a lot of Tv but when I do it’s usually YouTube videos on future space travel or alien type shit. If I was there I would go to the moon or even another planet if it was possible. Maybe even kick it with some aliens.

If you could have one superpower what would it be?

Ability to see into the future.

Where does your inspiration come from when writing/creating music?

It can really come from anything and it’s best when it doesn’t just come from one thing. There was a period of time where I wrote a lot of songs about my ex girlfriend and people really liked them so I kept doing it. After a while though, it became forced and the music wasn’t as good as a result. I kept trying to write about the situation not because I wanted to but because the songs did well which I learned was a big mistake.

If you could travel the world with anyone from history/famous who would it be?

Johnny Manziel. Guy knows how to have a good time.

If you weren't in the music industry what do you think you'd be doing?

I’m a big sneaker head I probably own close to 20 pairs at the moment so I would probably design sneakers.

What's a useless talent you have?

I was pretty good at wrestling I won a state championship in high school.

What is your favourite album of all time?

I go back and fourth on this a lot it really just depends on what I’m listening to. Recently I’ve been listening to Wiz Khalifa’s Rolling Papers a lot but I think my favorite of all time as far as what I’ve spent the most amount of time listening to is Rise Against’s The Sufferer and The Wittness.

Best compliment you’ve ever received?

My music is me so anytime someone tells me that they like my music it makes me feel some type of way. Somebody told me recently that my music saved their life and that was unreal to hear.

Your biggest fear.

Dying with regret.

If you could make one fictional character real who would it be?

Randy from trailer park boys, I think he’s hilarious.

Biggest pet peeve?

When people think subjective topics are objective. Specifically when people don’t realize that their taste in music does not apply to everyone. You’ll never hear me call an artist trash because there’s someone out there that rocks with their music and his or her opinion is just as valuable as mine.

If you could collab with one artist who would it be and why?

Michael Jackson. I know he has a questionable personal life but music wise he’s the greatest ever. No one has ever done what he’s done.

What's your dream venue to perform in?

Coachella. I’ve never been because I’ve always said the first time I go to Coachella will be to perform.

How do you unwind?

I’m pretty regimented with my life so every night I watch a 10-15 minute space video and meditate before I go to bed.

What do you enjoy most about being a musician?

I just like making shit like the feeling I get after I make a good song is better than sex.

What do you hate most?

I would probably say the thing I hate most is being in the public spotlight all the time. To be a successful artist you have to consistently be posting interesting things about you and your life and sometimes I just want to lock myself in my room and not talk to anybody.

What is a tv show you love to binge?

The last year or so I’ve really been trying to put all my energy into music and haven’t been watching TV. When I used to watch tv Black Mirror was my shit.

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve read or seen this week?

This artist named Bmike released this song/music video called the Story of Erica and basically about a girl who gets abused by her uncle at a young age and then goes on to pimp herself out in her adult life. I won’t ruin the video for the people that haven’t seen it yet but it really stuck with me because I’ve seen the exact same thing happen with one of my friends.

What's the most exciting thing you're working on right now?

Usually I write and record my songs in the same day but I have a song I’ve been spending some extra time on. I don’t want to get too deep into what it’s about but I think it’s my best yet and people are really going to like it.
