Style trends for men in 2019
2019 is bringing about some crazy trends which I hope are here to stay.
It seems like the general trend at the moment is "here I am" whereas in previous years, there's been an "I want what they've got" mentality at the forefront of our fashion choices.
Even though the current trends are extremely different in regards to colours and patterns, the general aim of standing apart from the crowd seems to be the basis of it all. It's about showing off your unique identity rather than showing you fit in with a certain crowd because you dress like them, which is pretty cool
We're focussing on streetwear here, none of the crazy runway stuff that none of us would actually go out in. Just the "going to Tesco then maybe the pub" type of fashion today. And just for fun I'm going to rate each trend out of 10 on how much I like it ( I know no one asked but this whole thing was already biased, why not keep it going)
An obvious but cool one first, bold prints on everything and clashing patterns. from shirts to any accessory you can think of, all over patterns and prints are the perfect item of clothing to make
anyone take notice and let people know you're making an entrance. I tend to wear one wild shirt or t shirt with all black everything else. Recently however, the juxtaposition of stripes, checks, animal print and anything else you can think of is making an appearance everywhere I look. This is dressing to make a statement which is only going to get more popular as the summer comes up. I'm giving this a solid 9/10 for the individuality it allows.
It seems like there's an exact 50/50 split between the "trendy" lads of the world where half are obsessed with tight fit everything and the rest are drowning in jumpers twice their size. Oversized jumpers are definitely one of the most stylish casual looks at the moment and it doesn't hurt that they are extremely comfortable.
Lots of the items in this trend are oversized graphic tees as well which are making a wild comeback covered in logos, abstract shapes and modern illustrations.
I've also noticed it's not stopping with tops anymore. Journeying back a few years, guys were wearing jeans so tight it was cutting off circulation, but now we're entering an era of loose fit/straight leg everything from formal trousers to joggers. I'm massively into this trend mainly because it gives you room to breathe, but also just because it's refreshingly different.
Saying that, I still wear slim black jeans 90% of the time.
The oversized trend is also spreading to accessories including massive sunglasses, chains and even hats seem to be getting bigger. I think we're just in a "the bigger the better" phase at the moment.
Only a 7/10 from me as, even though oversized jumpers are my favourite clothes (ever) I'm not a huge fan of when a person is covered in it.
I combined these into one because they fit together well, however, this doesn't mean to say they are
exclusive. Rave culture and fashion is generally a favourite of millennials at the minute, especially on the party scene. Anything with layers, bright colours, intense prints and patterns, skin showing and even the odd random strap here and there. Rave fashion is almost hard to classify until you see it in the real environment. This is also where a huge amount of the neon trend is coming from in 2019 however it is making an impact in all aspects of fashion right now. The most popular way to wear it seems to be with one popping neon item of clothing and generally dark tones for the rest of your outfit. Some people seem to be going all out with models on many clothing websites just in all out clashing neon everything. As horrible as this sounds to read, it's pretty impressive to see.
This one is more vague because there are no limits on the items of clothing, just the colour. I assume this has resurfaced with the whole vintage/90s trend that we've been going mad over for the last few years and I am into it. Everything and everyone looks good in this colour and lucky for us it's now everywhere. I've especially noticed a lot of sage suits appearing online.
Other colours to stock up on at the moment include earthy colours such as camel/coffee brown, golden yellow, and anything multicoloured too it seems.
As someone who usually lives in black jeans only this is a weird one for me, but it's starting to convince me. Plain trousers/jeans are out and wild ones are in. The coolest ones at the moment seem to be plaid but they don't stop there by any means. I've seen lots of stripes, all kinds of check and even tie dye knocking about. One thing to bear in mind that I've found is that they will get noticed
much more than a randomly patterned top. People will notice you and probably comment on it... but in a good way.
I'm all for it because it's actually encouraging me to step outside my comfort zone for once. 9/10
All sorts of stripes are cool at the moment- as long as they're vertical.
over the last few years horizontal stripes have been everywhere but now we've gone a different way - literally.
Sometimes they're thin, sometimes thick, sometimes irregular. Most popularly worn on oversized or loose fitting T shirts in all sort of colours and styles. However, the stripe trend has also made it's way to all types of Tees and shirts and now even to trousers, jeans and jackets. An added benefit of this one is that vertical stripes create illusions of thinness and give extra length to the area they are worn on, for those who want a hand with that.
This is definitely one of the more traditional and casual trends of 2019 and very easy to wear as stripes go with pretty much everything and anything for any occasion.
Finally no more weird "no show" socks. Never had them and never will.
Socks come in pretty much every design possible right now: Patterns, digital prints, bold colours, plain, tie dye, embroidered (and probably more) and it's now time to start showing them off. This is where all the random socks you've collected form you Gran over the years of Christmases and Birthdays will come in handy. Most likely, this trend has appeared due to the cropped trouser phase everywhere is going through, along with the disappearance of a lot of high top shoes and trainers being as popular as they were a few years back.
As workwear and formalwear becomes more casual, wild socks are popping up all over the place as people are wearing jeans and trainers to work, or even using a crazy sock to liven up a dull suit.
I personally hate the feeling of not wearing socks with shoes and filling the 4 inch gap between the top of my shoe and the bottom of my trouser with a plain black sock is not a look I'm going for. This one is perfect for the less outwardly confident amongst us to make a statement. A 10/10 from me.
One of my favourites on the list, but one I'm still not sure about for myself - Bucket hats are back from the 90s.
The biggest issue everyone seems to have with these is whether or not they can pull them off, to which i'd advise (hypocritically) "who cares as long as you feel good", but it is a bold move.
Massively popular within festival culture (where anything goes) bucket hats are appearing more and more in any and every casual setting. The range available on sites such as ASOS is impressive spanning from plain black to crazy patterns and materials such as cord and plastic.
Love them or hate them, they're a key part of 2019 streetwear so it's getting an 8/10 from me.
Hopefully this helps you to go out and try some new stuff without being too out off by whether or not you think it's too intense because the key thing to remember about style in 2019 is: there is no such thing as too much.
